Flames shut out Blue Jackets

Calgary earned a 3-0 victory Saturday night at Columbus to improve to 8-6-2 on the season. Sean Monahan opened the scoring 3:44 into the contest with assists going to Elias Lindholm and Johnny Gaudreau. Sean Bennett made it 2-0 with 11:40 remaining in the second period on assists courtesy of Derek Ryan and Noah Hanifin. Matthew Tkachuk finished the scoring late in the third period as Travis Hamonic and Lindholm drew assists. David Rittich was masterful between the pipes as he stopped all 43 shots sent his way.

Caps win third straight

Washington rolled to a 6-1 win at home Friday night over Buffalo to improve to 10-2-3 on the season. Jakub Vrana put the Capitals on the board with 13:43 to play in the first period on an assist by Tom Wilson. Chandler Stephenson made it 2-0 42 seconds later with assists going to Travis Boyd and Brendan Leipsic. Vrana scored his second goal less than three minutes later on assists by Michal Kempny and Wilson. Leipsic pushed it to 4-0 at the 9:16 mark of the first on assists from Boyd and Radko Gudas. The Sabres got on the board midway through the second period, but Washington answered later in the second on a Wilson goal assisted by Kempny. T.J. Oshie completed the scoring in the third period with assists courtesy of Kempny and Alex Ovechkin. Braden Holtby picked up the win in net as he secured 29 saves on 30 shots.

NHL Betting Trends

The Flames are 28-6 in their last 34 games versus the Metropolitan Division. Calgary is 38-13 in its last 51 Sunday games.

The Capitals are 7-1 in their last eight games overall. Washington is 5-0 in its last five Sunday games.

I might give more thought to the Flames if they were not on a back-to-back and Rittich was in goal, but I don't trust them as much having a bit of fatigue and with Cam Talbot doing the netminding. Washington is having a strong season so far and it dominated Buffalo the other night. I'm going to bet on the hosts to continue rolling.
