Sabres fall in shootout
Buffalo lost 3-2 Monday night in a shootout against Arizona to drop to 9-2-2 on the season. The Sabres lost the shootout by a count of 1-0. Jack Eichel put Buffalo on the board first with a power play goal 3:31 in assisted by Jeff Skinner and Sam Reinhart. Skinner made it 2-0 with 8:44 remaining in the first period as Marcus Johansson and Vladimir Sobotka assisted. The Coyotes drew within 2-1 late in the first and scored the equalizer in the second period. Carter Hutton registered 42 saves on 44 shots in the defeat.
Caps top Leafs in OT
Washington downed host Toronto 4-3 in overtime Tuesday night as Alex Ovechkin scored the game-winner on the power play with one minute left in the extra session. Dmitry Orlov and Jakub Vrana assisted on the goal. In the first period, John Carlson evened it at 1-1 at the 9:13 mark with Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom assisting. Carlson gave the Caps a 2-1 lead with 12:01 remaining in the second period on a power play goal assisted by Ovechkin and Backstrom. The Maple Leafs scored the next two goals, but Ovechkin evened it up at 3-3 with 15:50 remaining in the third on a goal that drew assists from T.J. Oshie and Backstrom. Braden Holtby secured 28 saves on 31 shots in the win.
