Penguins doubled up at Panthers
Pittsburgh lost by a score of 4-2 Tuesday night at Florida as it fell to 6-4-0 on the season. Teddy Blueger tied it up for the Penguins with 8:03 left in the first period on a goal assisted by Dominik Simon and Jake Guentzel. Pittsburgh fell back behind 3-1 in the third period, but did manage to cut it to 3-2 via a Patric Hornqvist goal with 5:35 remaining off assists from Sidney Crosby and Guentzel. Florida added the clinching goal with 1:03 left. Matt Murray surrendered three goals on 21 shots in the losing effort.
Lightning smashed by Avs
Tampa Bay suffered a 6-2 home loss Saturday night against Colorado to drop to 4-3-1 on the season. The Lightning tied it up late in the first period at 1-1 on a Yanni Gourde goal assisted by Ryan McDonagh and Kevin Shattenkirk. Tampa Bay gave up the next four goals before cutting it back to 5-2 with 8:12 remaining in the third via a Victor Hedman goal with assists going to Shattenkirk and Alex Killorn. The Avalanche added their final goal a few minutes later. Andrei Vasilevskiy allowed six goals on 24 shots in the defeat.
NHL Betting Trends
Pittsburgh
The Penguins are 10-3 in their last 13 games overall. Pittsburgh is 10-2 in its last 12 Wednesday games.
Tampa Bay
The Lightning are 48-15 in their last 63 games versus the Eastern Conference. Tampa Bay is 41-16 in its last 57 home games.
Prediction:
Pittsburgh is on the second end of a back-to-back and is likely to be starting its backup goaltender, while the Lightning are well-rested and stay at home. While Vasilevskiy was beaten badly in his last start, he’s usually solid and should have ample goal support. Tampa Bay is the right play here and I’d even consider the puckline bet.
