Avs roll at Lightning
Colorado dominated to the tune of 6-2 Saturday night at Tampa Bay to improve to 7-0-1 on the season. Tyson Jost opened the scoring 3:09 into the game to give the Avalanche a 1-0 lead with assists going to Samuel Girard and Colin Wilson. The Lightning tied it at 1-1 through one period, but Jost scored his second goal of the contest 3:19 into the second period to make it 2-1 with assists from J.T. Compher and Wilson. Gabriel Landeskog pushed the advantage to two goals a couple minutes later off assists from Nathan MacKinnon and Ian Cole. Jost completed his hat trick 18 seconds later to make it 4-1 with assists coming from Compher and Wilson. Nazem Kadri extended the lead to 5-1 with 13:30 left in the third period off an assist by Cole Makar. The Lightning got one goal back before the Avs finished the scoring via an unassisted Mikko Rantanen goal. Pavel Francouz picked up the win as he recorded 44 saves on 46 shots.
Blues fall against Canadiens
St. Lous lost 5-2 at home Saturday night versus Montreal to drop to 3-2-3 on the season. Jaden Schwartz tied the score at 1-1 with 12:52 left in the first period off assists from Alex Pietrangelo and Vladimir Tarasenko. The Canadiens took control of the game in the second period as they led 4-1 through 40 minutes. David Perron scored with 38 seconds left in the game on assists by Justin Faulk and Colton Parayko. Montreal added its last goal 15 seconds later. Jake Allen surrendered four goals on 24 shots in the losing effort.
NHL Betting Trends
Colorado
The Avalanche are 6-0 in their last six Monday games. Colorado is 6-0 in its last six games as an underdog.
St. Louis
The Blues are 4-1 in their last five games versus the Western Conference. St. Louis is 6-2 in its last eight Monday games.
Prediction:
Colorado is playing with some of the highest collective confidence in the entire NHL dating back to the way it finished last season with a late run to clinch a playoff berth followed by some postseason noise by knocking off top seed Calgary. The Avs will have their No. 1 goalie in Philipp Grubauer between the pipes here and have a chence to make another statement here with a win over the defending champions on the road. St. Louis started off slowly last season and I’d rather take the hottest team in the NHL as underdogs right now.
