Coming into play, the Devils are 3-1-0 on the season following a 5-2 home loss to the Capitals on Friday. New York is 1-3-0 after losing 3-1 at Columbus Friday night. The Rangers won three of four meetings last year with the over-under going 0-1-3.
On Friday night, New Jersey received a goal and an assist from Kyle Palmieri in the defeat. Taylor Hall scored the other goal. Cory Schneider allowed five goals on 28 shots to take the loss.
New York led 1-0 after a Kevin Hayes first period goal Friday night, but allowed an equalizer in the second period followed by two Blue Jackets scores in the third to lead to the loss. Henrik Lundqvist made 40 saves for the Rangers.
The home team is 6-1 in the last seven meetings between New Jersey and New York.
The Rangers are in need and perhaps due for a strong performance. With the back-to-back, Ondrej Pavelec might be in goal. He allowed three goals on 24 shots in a relief effort October 7 at Toronto. Look for a strong offensive effort against what could be New Jersey’s backup goaltender, Keith Kinkaid. It will be his first start of the season after posting a 2.64 GAA last year. We like the Rangers by multiple goals here.
