Penguins ease past Wild

Pittsburgh rolled to a 7-4 victory Saturday night at Minnesota to improve to 3-2-0 on the season. Patric Hornquist provided the only goal in the first period on the power play off assists from Justin Schultz and Sidney Crosby to give the Penguins a 1-0 advantage. Crosby made it a 2-0 game 3:26 into the second period via assists by Kris Letang and goalie Matt Murray. The Wild cut it to 2-1 shortly thereafter, but Pittsburgh pushed it back to 3-1 at the 8:49 mark on an Adam Johnson goal assisted by Sam Lafferty and Zach Aston-Reese. Letang pushed the lead to three less than two minutes later with a goal assisted by Brian Dumoulin and Brandon Tanev. Joseph Blandisi made it a 5-1 game less than a minute later on a goal assisted by Johnson and Lafferty. Minnesota cut it back to 5-2 before the end of the second, but Jake Guentzel pushed it to 6-2 on a power play goal midway through the third period on an assist from Hornquist. The Wild scored the next two goals, while the Penguins closed it out on a Lafferty unassisted tally with 1:11 remaining. Murray made 29 saves on 33 shots in the winning effort.

Jets prevail in OT

Winnipeg won 3-2 in overtime Saturday night at Chicago to improve to 4-2-0 on the season. Mark Scheifele provided the game-winning goal 47 seconds into overtime off assists by Blake Wheeler and Josh Morissey. The Jets trailed 2-0 through one period, but trimmed the deficit in half with 12:55 to go in the second period via a Nikolaj Ehlers goal on assists by Neal Pionk and Josh Roslovic. With 8:16 to play in the third, a goal from Andrew Copp on assists from Kyle Connor and Ehlers tied the score at 2-2. Connor Hellebuyck recorded 27 saves on 29 shots to post the win.

NHL Betting Trends

The Penguins are 6-0 in their last six games as an underdog. Pittsburgh is 4-0 in its last four games versus the Western Conference.

The Jets are 24-7 in their last 31 Sunday games. Winnipeg is 69-32 in its last 101 home games.

Both teams are on the second end of a back-to-back with travel from a similar distance away so there is no real advantage there. With both teams using a backup goalie tonight, we're probably looking at a fairly high-scoring affair. The Penguins expended less energy to secure their victory yesterday and despite being beat up a little bit with injuries, they are still getting the job done. I see this as a great spot for the Penguins to keep rolling as they benefit from Winnipeg going with Laurent Brossoit in net rather than Hellebuyck.
