Oilers Season Odds
The team to beat in the Northwest Division this year is clearly the Edmonton Oilers. Oddsmakers have established the Oilers’ odds to win the 2009 Stanley Cup at 35/1.
The Oilers are definitely heading in the right direction after an offseason in which they acquired forward Erik Cole, as well as defensemen Lubomir Visnovsky and Gilbert Brule. Edmonton easily had the best offseason of any club in the division.
Coupled with those additions, the Oilers will also get a boost from now-healthy defenseman Sheldon Souray, center Shawn Horcoff and forward Ethan Moreau. The trio missed a combined 142 games last year, so the club is eager to see what they can do in a full season.

Oddsmakers from online sports book SBG Global have listed the Oilers’ odds to win the 2009 Stanley Cup at 30/1. Bodog has Edmonton at 35/1, while Sportsbook.com gives the Oilers a 20/1 shot.
It’s hard not to like what the Oilers bring to the table, especially considering their season odds. After a productive offseason, this should be the team to beat in the Northwest and at 35/1 odds, they’re an excellent value bet. Now the additions of Cole, Visnovsky and Brule need to come together while Souray, Horcoff and Moreau need to stay healthy. Edmonton definitely benefits from having head coach Craig MacTavish behind the bench. MacTavish is one of the division’s best coaches and along with an excellent offense, he rest easy at night knowing he has a healthy goaltending situation with Mathuieu Garon and Dwayne Roloson between the pipes.
