Colorado is 1-0-0 on the season following Thursday night’s 4-2 win at the Rangers. This is the season opener for the Devils. Last season, the two games were split as each team won 3-2 on their home ice with the total pushing both times.
On Thursday night, the Avalanche received a 37-save performance from Semyon Varlamov en route to the victory. Matt Duchene, Mikko Rantanen, Tyson Barrie and Gabriel Landeskog each scored a goal for the Avalanche. Patrik Nemeth, Nail Yakupov, Nathan MacKinnon, Barrie, Alexander Kerfoot, Chris Bigras and Duchene each had one assist.
New Jersey was paced last year by Taylor Hall (20 G, 33 A) and Kyle Palmieri (26 G, 27 A). Cory Schneider finished last year 20-27-11 with a 2.82 GAA and a .908 saves percentage.
Colorado stunned the Rangers in its opener a couple days ago, but don’t expect a repeat performance. Neither team was good last season, but the Avs were downright dreadful and expecting them to win two in a row on the road this early in the season seems a bit much. Take the Devils here.
