Los Angeles is 1-0-0 on the season after a 2-0 home win over the Flyers on Thursday. San Jose is 0-1-0 after a 5-3 home loss to the same Flyers team on Wednesday. The four meetings last year were split 2-2, while the total went under once and pushed three times.
In the Kings’ opener, Jonathan Quick stopped all 35 of the shots that came his way to post the shutout. Trevor Lewis and Tyler Tafoli scored the goals for LA. Nick Shore, Kyle Clifford, Jeff Carter and Tanner Pearson each had one assist.
The Sharks were led by Kevin Lebanc with two goals in the opener. Logan Couture scored the other goal. Brenden Dillon, Joe Thornton, Brent Burns and Joe Pavelski each had one assist. Martin Jones made 26 saves.
Using the Flyers as a measure for these two teams would be unfair, since Philadelphia was playing Los Angeles on the second day of a back-to-back after upsetting the Sharks. But with Quick back in the fold this season after missing most of last year with an injury, this has the potential to be an outstanding Kings team. As long as LA can hold the opposition to a couple goals, it should provide enough offense to get the job done most nights. These two squads will probably beat up on each other in their four meetings this year, but we like the Kings in this one.
