2014 Eastern Conference Odds
(The Spread) – With the new NHL alignments being announced a few weeks ago, oddsmakers have released updated Eastern Conference odds for 2014.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Penguins have opened as 5/2 favorites to win the Eastern Conference in 2014. The team with the next best odds are the defending Eastern Conference champion Bruins, who are 19/4 to win. The Red Wings, meanwhile, are 17/2 and the Rangers are 11/1.
Continuing with the current odds, the Capitals are 12/1 to win the Eastern Conference in 2014, while the Canadiens and Maple Leafs are both 14/1, respectively. The Flyers, meanwhile, are 15/1 and both the Islanders and Senators are 16/1. The Hurricanes, Blue Jackets, Devils and Lightning are also 22/1, respectively, to take home the Eastern Conference crown next year, while the Sabres (40/1) and Panthers (75/1) are the biggest long shots.
The Penguins also have favorable odds to win the 2014 Stanley Cup at 13/2. Those odds are bested by only the current defending champs, the Blackhawks, who are 6/1. The Bruins, meanwhile, are 10/1 to win the Stanley Cup next year and the Red Wings are 16/1.
The Penguins ousted the Islanders in six games last year before taking four of five against the Senators in the Conference Semifinals. They finally met their match in the Conference Finals, however, losing all four games to the eventual Eastern Conference champs. In that series, Pittsburgh scored just two goals in those four games.
