2020 Stanley Cup Futures Odds to Win

2020 Stanley Cup Futures Odds, 6/15/19 Lightning Favored to Win Cup

Despite the Blues and Bruins taking the 2019 Stanley Cup Final to seven games, neither team is favored to win Lord Stanley’s Cup in 2020. Here is a complete breakdown of NHL futures for next season’s Cup.

The Favorite

According to oddsmakers from Sportsbook.com, the Tampa Bay Lightning are 6/1 to win the Stanley Cup in 2020. The Lightning won the President’s Trophy for the 2018-2019 season with 128 points, but then infamously flamed out in the playoffs by dropping four straight games to the Blue Jackets in the first round. It was a shocking ending to what was an incredible regular-season for Tampa.

The Challengers

The Vegas Golden Knights are 7/1 to win the 2020 Stanley Cup, followed by the defending Eastern Conference Champion Boston Bruins at 10/1. The Colorado Avalanche and Toronto Maple Leafs are also 10/1, respectively, to hoist the Cup next season. While Boston was eliminated in seven games in this year’s Cup Final, the Maple Leafs were beaten by the Bruins in the second round while the Avalanche were taken down by the Sharks in the second round of the Western Conference playoffs. That same San Jose team knocked off the Golden Knights in the first round.

What about the Defending Champs?

The Blues hoisted this year’s Stanley Cup after owning the worst record in all of hockey as late as January 2. Despite upsetting the Bruins in the Final, the Blues have worst odds than five other teams, including Boston, and are 14/1 to hoist the Stanley Cup again in 2020. While repeating is extremely difficult, the Blues will largely have the same core returning for next season.

The Mid-Range Challengers

The aforementioned Sharks are 16/1 to win the 2020 Stanley Cup, as are the Winning Jets, who were beaten the opening round of the Western Conference playoffs by the champion Blues. The Calgary Flames, meanwhile, are 20/1, as are the Nashville Predators, the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Washington Capitals, respectively. The Florida Panthers are 23/1 and the Philadelphia Flyers are 25/1.

The Mid-Range Long Shots

The Arizona Coyotes, Carolina Hurricanes, Columbus Blue Jackets, Dallas Stars and New York Islanders are all 30/1, respectively, followed by the Chicago Blackhawks, Minnesota Wild and Vancouver Canucks at 40/1, respectively. Meanwhile, the Edmonton Oilers and Montreal Canadiens are 50/1, followed by the Buffalo Sabres at 60/1.

The True Long Shots

The Anaheim Ducks, Detroit Red wings, Los Angeles Kings, New Jersey Devils and New York Rangers are all 80/1, respectively, to win the 2020 Stanley Cup. That said, their odds pale in comparison to the Ottawa Senators, who have the longest odds to win next year’s Cup at a whopping 300/1.
