Blues roll in Game 6
St. Louis advanced to the Stanley Cup Finals for the first time since 1970 Tuesday night as it cruised to a 5-1 victory over San Jose in Game 6 of the Western Conference Finals. David Perron scored 1:32 into the first period to get the Blues on the board off assists from Sammy Blais and Ryan O’Reilly. Vladimir Tarasenko added a power play goal later in the first on assists by Colton Parayko and O’Reilly. The Sharks trimmed the deficit in half at the 13:20 mark of the second period, but six minutes later Brayden Schenn scored on the power play to make it 3-1. Alex Pietrangelo and Robert Thomas assisted on the goal. Tyler Bozak scored with 13:55 to go in the third period with assists going to Perron and O’Reilly to push the advantage to 4-1. The final goal was scored by Ivan Barbashev on an empty net with 2:15 remaining off an Oskar Sundqvist assist. Jordan Binnington racked up 25 saves on 26 shots in the winning effort.
Bruins sweep past Hurricanes
Boston completed its four-game sweep against Carolina 11 days ago with a 4-0 road win in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Finals. After a scoreless first period, David Pastrnak put the Bruins on the board at the 15:04 mark of the second period on the power play off assists from Brad Marchand and Torey Krug. Patrice Bergeron added a power play goal with 1:26 remaining in the second on an assist from Pastrnak to make it 2-0. Bergeron pushed it to 3-0 with 9:28 remaining in the contest on a goal assisted by Pastrnak. Marchand completed the scoring with 2:17 left off assists by Bergeron and David Krejci. Tuukka Rask recorded the shutout as he saved all 24 shots sent his way.
NHL Betting Trends
St. Louis
The Blues are 4-0 in their last four Monday games. St. Louis is 9-2 in its last 11 games as the underdog.
Boston
The Bruins are 3-8 in the last 11 home meetings versus the Blues. The favorite is 4-0 in the last four meetings.
Prediction:
The only thing that worries me for the Bruins is the long layoff, but on the flipside that should help them be refreshed and healthier for Game 1 tonight. The Blues will provide a physical challenge, but Rask is playing awesome hockey between the pipes right now and Boston’s offense is clicking on all cylinders. The Blues in my opinion have a better shot at taking Game 2 in Boston than they do tonight.
