Wednesday NHL Playoff Free Pick
(The Spread) – With a victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning tonight, the Boston Bruins can move onto the 2011 Stanley Cup Finals.
Oddsmakers from online sports book SBGGLOBAL.com have made the Lightning –116 money line favorites over the Bruins, who are +107 on the ML. The over/under total for tonight’s game is currently 5.5 goals and the puck will drop at 8:00PM ET.
The Bruins inched closer to making an appearance in the Stanley Cup Finals with a 3-1 win over the Lightning in Boston on Monday. Nathan Horton, Rich Peverely and Brad Marchand all scored for the Bruins, while netminder Tim Thomas saved 33 of the 34 shots he faced on the night.
Simon Gagne scored the lone goal for the Lightning, who obviously struggled offensively against Thomas. Mike Smith couldn’t revive the same magic he had in Game 5, although he did save 17 of the 19 shot attempts he faced.
NHL Playoff Free Pick: With Tampa’s goaltender situation in flux, I think it’s a good chance to cash in on the Bruins. While Smith has played well in this series, Guy Boucher has named 41-year-old Dwayne Roloson the starter on Wednesday. After not playing in Game 5, it makes you wonder whether or not Roloson will be up for the task tonight. According to latest NHL trends, the Bruins are 35-16-5 in their last 56 games against the Lightning and they offer a nice value at +107 tonight.
WEDNESDAY NHL FREE PICK: BOSTON BRUINS +107
