Canucks win the NHL West
(TheSpread) – The Vancouver Canucks were the favorites entering the 2011 NHL Western Conference Playoffs and on Tuesday, the Canucks won lived up to that by winning the Western Conference.
The Canucks entered the playoffs as the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference and Vancouver finished off the San Jose Sharks in the conference finals in five games on Tuesday night.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bodog.com Vancouver entered the playoffs with 13/10 odds to win the Western Conference. This means a $100 wager on Vancouver to win the Western Conference will pay out an additional $130.
Vancouver opened the playoffs by beating the defending Stanley Cup Champions, the Chicago Blackhawks, in seven games. Chicago was the No. 8 seed and the Blackhawks took Vancouver to overtime in the seventh and decisive games before bowing out.
In the second round, Vancouver topped No. 5 Nashville in six games. Five of the six games in this series were decided by one goal, with Vancouver winning three of those contests.
In the conference finals, Vancouver never trailed in the series jumping out to a 2-0 lead. The Sharks won Game 3, but dropped the final two contests to allow the Canucks to reach their fourth Stanley Cup Finals in franchise history.
