The Blackhawks are the champions of the Central Region, while the Kings are the champs out of the Pacific Region. Chicago has the home-ice advantage for the series. According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, Chicago is the favorite to win this series, as the Blackhawks have odds of -340 to win, while the Wild has a money line of +270.

Chicago was 46-21-15 overall this season, racking up 107 points. The Blackhawks were 27-7-7 at home and 19-14-8 on the road. Chicago scored 267 goals this season while allowing 220. The 267 goals were the most of any team in the NHL this season. Chicago defeated the St. Louis Blues in the opening round of the playoffs in six games and then beat the Minnesota Wild in six games to win the Central region.

The Kings were 46-28-8 this season, earning a total of 100 points. Los Angeles went 23-14-4 both at home and on the road this season. The Kings scored just 206 goals on the year, but allowed only 174, which was the fewest in the NHL. The Kings defeated the Sharks in the opening round in seven games. Los Angeles lost the first three games of the series, but rallied to win four straight. In the second round, Los Angeles defeated Anaheim, again in seven games.

These two teams met three times during the season, with Chicago winning all three games, outscoring the Kings 9-4 in the process. Chicago enters the series having won five straight meetings with the Kings, with three of the wins coming by a single goal.
