Sharks prevail in Game 5

San Jose earned a 2-1 victory Saturday night in Game 5 of the Western Conference Semifinals at home over Colorado to take a 3-2 series lead. The Sharks fell behind 1-0 with 2:59 left in the second period, but evened it up at 1-1 with 20 seconds remaining in the second on a power play goal by Tomas Hertl with assists from Logan Couture and Erik Karlsson. Hertl proceeded to give San Jose a 2-1 lead that held up the rest of the way as his goal with 13:34 left in the third period broke the tie. It was assisted by Marc-Edouard Vlasic and Joonas Donskoi. Martin Jones picked up the win between the pipes as he allowed one goal on 22 shots.

Avs fall short on road

Colorado suffered a 2-1 loss at San Jose in Game 5 of the Western Conference Finals Saturday night as it allowed the go-ahead goal with 13:34 left in the third period. The Avalanche grabbed a 1-0 lead at the 2:59 mark of the second period on a Tyson Jost unassisted goal. Colorado gave up the tying goal in the final minute of the second before allowing the go-ahead goal in the third. Philipp Grubauer gave up two goals on 39 shots in the losing effort.

NHL Betting Trends

San Jose

The Sharks are 26-12 in their last 38 games following a win. San Jose is 35-16 in the last 51 meetings.

The home team is 38-16 in the last 54 meetings. The favorite is 37-15 in the last 52 meetings.

Cream tends to rise to the top and while there have been plenty of upsets in the postseason, I think San Jose is the superior team here and already has shown it can win at Colorado. I'm going to say Jones has another strong effort in net while getting more offensive support from his teammates as the Sharks move on to the Western Conference Finals.
