Friday NHL Playoff Free Pick
(The Spread) – The Detroit Red Wings will look to stave off elimination tonight when they host the San Jose Sharks at 7:00PM ET.
Oddsmakers from online sports book SBGGLOBAL.com have made the Red Wings –141 money line favorites over the Sharks, who are +130 on the ML. The over/under total for tonight’s game is currently 5.5 goals.
The Sharks took a 3-0 series lead when they beat the Red Wings for the third straight time. After the Wings took a 3-2 lead on Pavel Datsyuk’s (Henrik Zetterberg, Nicklas Lidstrom) goal in the second period, the Sharks answered back with a Dan Boyle (Kyle Wellwood, Toerrey Mitchell) goal 15:52 into the third period. Devin Setoguchi’s (Joe Thornton) goal in overtime won it for San Jose.
Now the Wings have to figure out a way to limit the power play opportunities that they’ve created for the Sharks this entire series. They racked up four penalties in Game 3 and despite having a power play advantage themselves 5:11 into overtime, they couldn’t capitalize.
NHL Playoff Picks: I normally wouldn’t advocate laying –141 on the money line in any sport, but I just don’t see the Wings being swept. They’re just too good of a team to go out in four games, especially losing back-to-back games at home. According to latest NHL trends, the Wings are 4-1 in their last five games as a favorite, while the Sharks are 3-7 in their last 10 playoff games as an underdog. Again, -141 is a little expensive but I don’t see Detroit going down without a fight. In fact, maybe we’ll see an offensive explosion out of them and this one won’t even be close.
