Avs win in shutout fashion
Colorado earned a 3-0 shutout victory Thursday night at home versus San Jose to even the best-of-7 series up at 2-2. After a scoreless first period, Nathan MacKinnon broke the deadlock midway through the second period with his sixth goal of the postseason. Assists on the tally went to Mikko Rantanen and Cale Makar. In the third period, a Colin Wilson power play goal at the 16:49 mark on an assist from Rantanen. Erik Johnson added an insurance goal with 1:09 remaining off assists from Matt Calvert and Matt Nieto. Philipp Grubauer was stellar in net as he stopped all 32 shots sent his way to record the shutout.
Sharks unable to find the net in defeat
San Jose lost 3-0 Thursday night at Colorado in the Western Conference Semifinals as the series is now even at two games apiece. The Avalanche scored midway through the second period to break a scoreless tie, while two third-period goals by the hosts put it away. The Sharks recorded 32 shots on goal in the defeat, with four shots from defenseman Erik Karlsson leading the way. Martin Jones gave up two goals on 27 shots in the losing effort.
NHL Betting Trends
The Avalanche are 37-77 in their last 114 road games. Colorado is 4-23 in its last 27 meetings in San Jose.
The home team is 37-16 in the last 53 meetings. San Jose is 9-3 in its last 12 Saturday games.
In a pivotal Game 5, I can't see the Sharks failing at home against a team it has typically had such success against at the SAP Center. San Jose might have one home loss in this series already, but I don't expect another one. And I certainly don't expect Grubauer to stand on his head like he did in Game 4. If any goalie in this game has a phenomenal performance, I look for it to be Jones as he has stepped up in big moments during the playoffs so far.
