Islanders struggle in Game 3
New York lost by a count of 5-2 at Carolina Wednesday to fall behind 3-0 in the best-of-7 Eastern Conference Semifinals series. The Hurricanes took a 1-0 advantage 6:41 in, but the Islanders evened it up less than two minutes later on a Devin Toews power play goal assisted by Josh Bailey and Jordan Eberle. Carolina again grabbed a 2-1 lead in the second period, while New York tied it at 2-2 with 5:47 to go in the second via a Bailey goal off a Tom Kuhhackl assist. The Hurricanes scored three unanswered goals in the third period to take full control. Robin Lehner registered 33 saves on 36 shots in the defeat.
Hurricanes roll to victory
Carolina cruised to a 5-2 win in Game 3 Wednesday night at home for its third straight victory over New York in the best-of-7 series. Teuvo Teravainen put the Hurricanes on the board first at the 13:19 mark of the first period on a goal assisted by Jaccob Slavin and Dougie Hamilton. The Islanders evened it up at 1-1 shortly thereafter, while in the second period Carolina took the lead again via a Justin Faulk goal off assists from Warren Foegele and Jordan Staal. New York tied it up at 2-2 before a third-period barrage put the Hurricanes on top for good. Justin Williams gave Carolina the lead for good at 3-2 midway through the third period on a goal assisted by Sebastian Aho. Teravainen scored an empty-net goal with 58 seconds remaining on assists by Brett Pesce and Slavin. Aho added another empty-netter with five seconds to play on an assist courtesy of Lucas Wallmark. Curtis McElhinney recorded 28 saves on 30 shots in the winning effort.
NHL Betting Trends
New York
The Islanders are 5-1 in their last six road games. The road team is 7-2 in the last nine meetings.
Carolina
The Hurricanes are 2-5 in the last home meetings. Carolina is 20-6 in its last 26 home games.
Prediction:
Carolina is playing with a ton of confidence right now and has been stellar at home. Even with McElhinney in net, the Hurricanes don’t look like they are skipping a beat. For a franchise that hadn’t been in the postseason for a decade, Carolina looks like a regular participant this go-around. I’m rolling with the Hurricanes to finish off the sweep here as I don’t see New York creating enough offense to keep up on the road.
