Predators unable to mount comeback
Nashville suffered a 5-3 loss Saturday at home versus Dallas to fall behind 3-2 in the series. The Predators got on the board via a Rocco Grimaldi goal with 13:35 left in the first period on assists from Roman Josi and Ryan Ellis. The Stars tied it up later in the first period and added two goals in the first 7:41 of the second period to go ahead 3-1. Ryan Johansen pulled Nashville within 3-2 at the 10:42 mark of the second off assists from Filip Forsberg and Josi. Dallas scored again later in the second and added another goal early in the third to push its advantage to 5-2. Kyle Turris pulled the Predators within 5-3 with 17:35 remaining in regulation on an assist by Mikael Granlund, but the hosts could not manage to pull any closer. Pekka Rinne surrendered five goals on 26 shots in the defeat.
Stars prevail in Game 5
Dallas earned a 5-3 victory Saturday at Nashville to grab a 3-2 series lead in the Western Conference quarterfinals. The Predators struck first in the first period, but the Stars evened it at 1-1 at the 6:52 mark on a Jason Dickinson goal assisted by Roope Hintz and Roman Polak. Alexander Radulov gave Dallas a 2-1 advantage 40 seconds into the second period on assists from Tyler Seguin and Jamie Benn. Radulov scored again seven minutes later off an assist from Benn to push it to 3-1. After Nashville trimmed it back to a one-goal game, the Stars scored again with 4:06 to play in the second on a Seguin goal assisted by Benn. Dickinson scored his second goal of the contest 1:57 into the third period to extend it to 5-2. The Predators managed to get one goal back shortly thereafter, but were unable to pull any closer. Ben Bishop registered 30 saves on 33 shots in the winning effort.
NHL Betting Trends
Nashville
The Predators are 4-1 in their last five road games. Nashville. The road team is 7-3 in the last 10 meetings.
Dallas
The Stars are 6-2 in their last eight games overall. The favorite is 23-11 in the last 34 meetings.
Prediction:
The only way the Predators win this game is they do a much better job of bottling up the Radulov-Seguin-Benn line that has tormented them much of the series. The good news is that Nashville has the talented and experienced defensemen plus goaltender to get that done. Nashville can win any low-scoring game and I don’t expect this to be another contest with eight goals. I think Rinne and company bounce back here and force a Game 7.
