Hurricanes slip by Caps
Carolina earned a 2-1 victory Thursday night at home against Washington to tie its Eastern Conference quarterfinals series at two games apiece. Warren Foegele gave the Hurricanes a 1-0 advantage 17 seconds into the contest on a goal assisted by Jaccob Slavin and Justin Williams. The Capitals evened the game at 1-1 midway through the second period, but with 27.9 seconds remaining in the second Teuvo Teravainen put the hosts back ahead with assists going to Nino Niederreiter and Sebastian Aho. Carolina managed to hang on after a scoreless third period. Petr Mrazek saved 30 out of 31 shots sent his way to record the win.
Ovechkin scores lone goal in defeat
Washington fell by a count of 2-1 Thursday night at Carolina as the Eastern Conference quarterfinals series now sits at 2-2. The Capitals trailed 1-0 through one period, but an Alex Ovechkin goal on the power play with 9:25 remaining in the second period evened the score. Assists on the score went to Dmitry Orlov and Lars Eller. The Hurricanes scored the go-ahead goal late in the second, while Washington was unable to find the equalizer in the third period. Braden Holtby registered 22 saves on 24 shots in the defeat.
NHL Betting Trends
Carolina

Washington
The Capitals are 5-0 in their last five playoff games as a favorite. Washington is 4-0 in the last four home meetings.
Prediction:
Washington has been fairly dominant at home lately and Carolina hasn’t solved the Caps away from their home building the last couple seasons. Smart money here is on the home team and the reigning Stanley Cup champions. Carolina is on the rise, but I don’t know if it quite has enough in the tank yet to win this series and tonight will show that.
