Islanders bottle up Penguins
New York rolled to a 4-1 victory at Pittsburgh Sunday afternoon to take a commanding 3-0 series lead in the Eastern Conference quarterfinals. After falling behind 1-0 in the first period, the Islanders scored four unanswered goals the rest of the way to notch the win. Jordan Eberle evened the score at 1-1 with 6:38 left in the first period off assists by Ryan Pulock and Mathew Barzal. A minute later, a goal by Brock Nelson assisted by Tom Kuhnhackl gave New York the lead. Following a scoreless second period, Leo Komarov pushed the advantage to two goals midway through the third period with assists going to Anthony Beauvillier and Valtteri Filppula. Anders Lee added a goal with 1:28 remaining on assists from Filppula and Adam Pelech. Robin Lehner allowed one goal on 26 shots in the winning effort.
Penguins stumble after early lead
Pittsburgh could not build on a 1-0 first period lead Sunday in Game 3 at home home versus New York to fall into a 3-0 series deficit. Garrett Wilson gave the Penguins a 1-0 advantage with 7:06 left in the first period off assists by Marcus Pettersson and Justin Schultz. The Islanders scored twice the rest of the first period and added two more goals in the third period to put it away. Pittsburgh manufactered 26 shots on goal in the defeat led by four each from Jake Guentzel and Patric Hornqvist. Matt Murray surrendered three goals on 35 shots in the loss.
NHL Betting Trends
New York
The Islanders are 4-0 in their last four road games. New York is 4-0 in its last four games as an underdog.
Pittsburgh
The Penguins are 121-55 in their last 176 home games. The favorite is 2-6 in the last eight meetings.
Prediction:
New York has played fantastic defense and found timely goals in frustrating Pittsburgh and jumping out to a 3-0 series lead. I feel like this moneyline is too steep for a Penguins team that is searching for answers and was inconsistent much of the season. I’m taking a shot at a confident New York team to pull off the sweep tonight.
