Smith wins it in OT
Nashville secured a 2-1 overtime victory Saturday at home versus Dallas to even the series at 1-1. Craig Smith scored the game-winning goal five minutes into overtime off assists from Mattias Ekholm and Calle Jarnkrok. Following a scoreless first period, the Stars got on the board first 1:59 into the second period. But the Predators managed to tie it back up two minutes later on a Rocco Grimaldi goal off assists courtesy of Austin Watson and Jarnkrok. Pekka Rinne allowed one goal on 23 shots in the winning effort.
Stars unable to win second road game in row
Dallas could not close out a second straight win at Nashville Saturday as it fell 2-1 in overtime. The Stars grabbed a 1-0 advantage early in the second period as Jamie Benn found the back of the net off an assist by Tyler Seguin. But the Predators tied it up shortly thereafter and Dallas was unable to carve out another goal before eventually falling in overtime. Ben Bishop surrendered two goals on 42 shots in the defeat. Dallas recorded 23 shots in the contest with Seguin pacing the offense as he manufactured four shots.
NHL Betting Trends
Nashville
The Predators are 38-13 in their last 51 Monday games. The road team is 5-2 in the last seven meetings.
Dallas
The favorite is 22-9 in the last 31 meetings. Dallas is 8-3 in its last 11 games versus the Central Division.
Prediction:
Both teams rely on solid goaltending and defense, so don’t expect a shootout at any point of this series. While Dallas is the home team tonight, the fact that the Predators are now on the board in the series eases some of their pressure. Nashville had a fantastic regular season and could be ready for a deep postseason run. I’m taking the Predators to solve Bishop enough to notch the victory tonight.
