Sunday NHL Free Pick
(The Spread) – After failing to keep the New York Rangers out of the NHL playoffs Saturday, can the New Jersey Devils rebound with a victory over the Boston Bruins in their season finale Sunday afternoon?
Oddsmakers from online sports book Sportsbook.com have made the Bruins a -115 favorite and the over-under is set at 5. Play is slated to begin at 3:00PM EST.
Boston is 46-24-11 overall and 24-11-5 on the road, locking them into the third seed for the Eastern Conference playoffs. New Jersey is 37-39-5 overall and 21-16-3 to keep it out of the playoffs.
According to latest NHL trends, the Bruins are 3-0 versus the Devils this season. Boston is scoring 3.0 goals per game and giving up 2.4, while New Jersey scores 2.1 per and allows 2.5.
NHL Free Pick: New Jersey seemingly has less to play for in this one, but the way I see it that just is not true. For one thing, the Devils are playing in front of their home fans for the last time this season and will want to leave a good impression after a frustrating season. While Saturday’s upset bid of the Rangers did not go as planned in what ended in a 5-2 defeat, it should be a different story at home. Boston may be 3-0 against New Jersey this season, but Tim Thomas was goaltending in all of those games and posted a 0.67 goals-against average. Tuukka Rask will be manning the pipes for the Bruins in this one and is bound to let at least two or three few. The way New Jersey can play defense, I like those chances. I’m rolling with the Devils -105.
SUNDAY NHL FREE PICK: NEW JERSEY DEVILS -105
