Sunday NHL Opening Odds
(The Spread) – On the last day of the NHL regular season Sunday, there are five games on the schedule but clearly the biggest two contests involve the Chicago Blackhawks and the Dallas Stars.
The Chicago Blackhawks are on tap first as they can clinch a playoff spot with a victory at home over the Detroit Red Wings which airs at 12:30PM EST on NBC Chicago can also get in if it loses in regulation and Dallas loses later in the day to Minnesota or beat the Wild in a shootout, which would give the Blackhawks the final seed.
Oddsmakers from online sports book Sportsbook.com have made Chicago a -200 moneyline favorite and the over-under is 5.5, while Detroit has a line of +170. The Blackhawks are 24-16-0 at home this season, while the Red Wings are 25-11-4 on the road.
According to the latest NHL trends, the under is 5-1 in the last six meetings and is 4-1 in the last five meetings in Chicago. The underdog is 5-2 in the last seven meetings. The road team is 8-1 in the last nine meetings. The Red Wings are 0-4 in the last four meetings.
Detroit will be without Henrik Zetterberg (24 goals, 56 assists) as he is day-to-day with an ankle injury. The Blackhawks are led by Jonathan Toews as he has 32 goals and 44 assists.
If Chicago wins, Dallas’ game against Minnesota at 6:00PM EST means very little in the grand scheme of things. However, if the Blackhawks lose everything rests in the Stars’ hands. A line was not set overnight for the contest.
The Colorado Avalanche host the Edmonton Oilers at 3:00PM EST. Colorado is a -135 favorite and the over-under is set at 5.5.
