Canadiens unable to hang with Blue Jackets
Montreal lost by a 6-2 score at Columbus Thursday night to drop to 41-29-8 on the season. Brett Kulak opened the scoring for the Canadiens 1:15 in with his eighth goal of the season and the visitors led 1-0 through 20 minutes. Max Domi and Andrew Shaw assisted on the score. The Blue Jackets evened it up less than two minutes into the second period, but Montreal took a 2-1 advantage under seven minutes later as Jeff Petry found the back of the net with his 12th goal of the season. Phillip Danault and Kulak drew assists. Columbus proceeded to score twice the rest of the second period to go up 3-2 and added three insurance goals in the third to put it away. Carey Price surrendered five goals in 29 shots in the losing effort.
Jets fall to Islanders at home
Winnipeg was edged 5-4 at home against New York Thursday night to fall to 45-28-4 on the season. Adam Lowry scored 13 seconds into the contest off assists from Brandon Tanev and Nathan Beaulieu to give the Jets a 1-0 lead. Lowry scored again, his 11th goal of the season, six minutes later off assists from Jacob Trouba and Tanev. The Islanders trimmed it to 2-1 before the end of the second period, but Tanev gave Winnipeg a 3-1 lead 3:46 into the second on assists from Beaulieu and Lowry. New York scored a few minutes later to cut it to a 3-2 game by the end of the second. Mark Scheifele scored with 13:14 remaining on the power play, his 36th goal of the season, with assists going to Trouba and Blake Wheeler to put the Jets ahead 4-2. NHL Betting Trends
Montreal
The Canadiens are 24-53 in their last 77 games as an underdog. Montreal is 11-27 in its last 38 Saturday games.
Winnipeg
The Jets are 5-1 in their last six games playing on one day of rest. Winnipeg is 68-28 in its last 96 home games.
Prediction:
The Jets are typically dominant at home but have lost their last two and I don’t envision three home losses in a row. Montreal didn’t look very good on the road two nights ago and now are going to be in a tougher environment tonight. Look for a strong bounceback effort for Winnipeg.
