Thursday NHL Free Pick
(The Spread) – The Toronto Maple Leafs are clinging onto their slim playoff hopes by playing well over the past couple of games. Can they top the Aves tonight?
Oddsmakers from online sports book Bodog.com have made the Maple Leafs –115 money line favorites over the Avalanche, who are +106. The over/under total for this contest is currently 5.5 points.
The Leafs enter tonight’s game with a 33-31-5-5 overall record, which includes a 16-17-2-1 mark on the road. According to latest NHL trends, the under is 39-33 in all Toronto games this year but the over is 18-17 when the Leafs have played on the road.
The Avalanche come into Thursday with a 28-36-7-1 overall record and are just 15-17-4-0 at home. The over is 45-26 in all Colorado games this year and 26-10 when the Aves play at home.
NHL Free Pick: The Maple Leafs are going for their third straight win tonight and their fifth victory in their last seven outings. They face an uphill climb as far as making the postseason but they sit five points behind the eighth-place Sabres in the Eastern Conference so the challenge isn’t impossible. Rookie James Reimer is coming off a great outing against the Wild in which he blocked all 29 shots he faced in a 3-0 win. He’s now 11-3-1 on the road this year and I believe he’ll pick up another win away from Toronto tonight. The Aves are just 1-4 in their last five games as a home underdog and 2-7 in their last nine games following a win. Take Toronto.
