Sunday’s NHL Opening Odds
(The Spread) – There are five NHL contests on Sunday’s schedule including the defending Stanley Cup champion Chicago Blackhawks squaring off at the Washington Capitals live on NBC.
Chicago opens play Sunday with a 37-24-7 record, good for fifth in the Western Conference. The Blackhawks have a 16-10-7 road mark. Washington has compiled a 39-20-10 record with an 18-12-3 home record. It is a battle between two hot teams as Chicago is 8-1-1 in its last 10 games, while the Capitals have won nine of their last 10. Play begins at 12:30PM EST.
Oddsmakers and online sports book Bodog.com have made the Capitals -130 favorites in the contest, while the over-under is currently set at 5.5. According to the latest trends, Chicago is 33-35-0 on over-unders while Washington is an astounding 16-50-3 with over-unders.
The Capitals have won seven games in a row, the last of which being a 2-1 home victory Friday night over the Hurricanes. Chicago was winners of eight in a row prior to suffering losses in its last two games, defeats at Florida and Tampa Bay.
Leading Washington in scoring is Alex Ovechkin as he has accounted for 28 goals and 45 assists in 68 games. Jonathan Toews paces Chicago with 28 goals and 60 assists.
