Jets fall at Lightning
Winnipeg lost by a 5-2 count at Tampa Bay Tuesday night to drop to 39-23-4 on the season. After the Lightning struck first, the Jets tied it with 13:29 left in the first period on a Blake Wheeler power play goal assisted by Patrik Laine and Jacob Trouba. Tampa Bay proceeded to score twice in the second period and twice in the third to make it a 5-1 game. Winnipeg got one goal back with 4:57 remaining as Trouba scored on the power play with an assist going to goaltender Connor Hellebuyck. Hellebuyck allowed four goals on 36 shots to take the loss. Laurent Brossoit briefly relieved Hellebuyck and gave up one goal on two shots.
Hurricanes loss in overtime
Carolina had its five-game winning streak come to a close Tuesday night with a 4-3 overtime loss at Boston. Sebastian Aho gave the Hurricanes a 1-0 advantage through one period with his 28th goal of the season, assisted by Calvin de Haan and Trevor van Riemsdyk. Aho scored his 29th goal 1:10 into the second period to make it 2-0 on assists from Nino Niederreiter and Justin Faulk. The Bruins scored two goals the rest of the second period and again early in the third to go ahead 3-2. Carolina tied it at 3-3 with 7:43 left in regulation as Justin Williams scored his 19th goal of the season on assists from Jordan Martinook and Brett Pesce. Boston scored the winner 1:46 into overtime. Curtis McElhinney surrendered four goals on 38 shots in the losing effort.

Prediction:
I feel like Winnipeg doesn’t always get enough credit for how good they are, although this season has had its fair share of inconsistency. Carolina is a bit in the same boat as it is having a breakthrough season and isn’t really getting the respect from NHL fans that it deserves. The Hurricanes are getting respect with tonight’s line, which seems a little too steep considering the opponent. While I see the argument on both sides of this bet, I love the value on Winnipeg and will be putting money on it bouncing back from a loss against the NHL’s top team.
