Penguins edged at Lightning

Pittsburgh suffered a 5-4 loss at Tampa Bay Saturday night for its fourth straight loss to drop to 28-20-7 on the season. Garrett Wilson opened the scoring in the first period for the Penguins with his first goal of the season on assists by Teddy Blueger and Matt Cullen. The Lightning proceeded to go ahead 2-1 by the end of the period and added a goal in the second to go up by two goals. Jared McCann trimmed it back to 3-2 in the second off an assist by Bryan Rust, while Rust scored with 4:56 remaining in the period to even the score again with Jake Guentzel assisting. Tampa Bay scored twice in the third to go back ahead 5-3 with 5:57 to go, but Pittsburgh got one back on a Tanner Pearson goal assisted by Sidney Crosby before being unable to find the equalizer. Casey DeSmith allowed five goals on 34 shots in the losing effort.

Flyers bounce back with win

Philadelphia had a lengthy win streak end two games ago, but rebounded with a 6-2 home win over Anaheim Saturday to improve to 25-23-7 on the season. The Flyers went up 4-0 through 20 minutes, beginning with a Phil Varone goal 2:44 in off an assist by Michael Raffl. Sean Couturier scored midway through the period on assists by Robert Hagg and Varone. Raffl scored a shorthanded goal a minute later with assists going to Scott Laughton and Andrew MacDonald. Oskar Lindblom scored the final goal of the period off assists from Couturier and Jakub Voracek. The Ducks trimmed it to 4-2 in the third period, but Nolan Patrick got one back on the power play with 7:45 left on assists by Couturier and Travis Konecny. Konecny added a goal later in the period off assists by Travis Sanheim and James van Riemsdyk. Carter Hart made 30 saves on 32 shots for his eighth consecutive win in net.

NHL Betting Trends

Pittsburgh

The Penguins are 5-2 in their last seven games versus the Metropolitan Division. Pittsburgh is 9-3 in its last 12 games on one day of rest.

Philadelphia

The Flyers are 5-0 in their last five games as an underdog. Philadelphia is 9-1 in its last 10 games overall.

Prediction:

Philadelphia is the much hotter team right now and can smell blood on a vulnerable Penguins team. Being at home certainly helps too. With the way the two teams are trending right now, perhaps the line should be closer to even or even with the Flyers favored. Ever since Hart was brought up from the minors, this team has been on a roll. Bet on that to continue.
