Blue Jackets fall at home
Columbus returned from the All-Star Break Tuesday night with a 5-4 home defeat versus Buffalo to drop to 28-18-3 on the season. The Blue Jackets evened the score at 1-1 in the first period on a goal by Pierre-Luc Dubois. It was assisted by Ryan Murray and Cam Atkinson. The Sabres proceeded to score two more goals to take a 3-1 advantage through 20 minutes. Nick Foligno scored a power play goal 21 seconds into the second period to make it a 3-2 game as Artemi Panarin and Dubois drew assists. Buffalo pushed it back to a two-goal lead only 21 seconds later. With 3:08 remaining in the second period, Brandon Dubinsky cut it to 4-3 on a goal assisted by Scott Harrington and Josh Anderson. Atkinson then tied it up with his 28th goal of the season as 33 seconds remained in the second period as Murray and Panarin recorded assists. The Sabres scored what turned out to be the game-winning goal 2:12 into the third period. Sergei Bobrobsky surrendered five goals on 34 shots in the loss.
Jets secure shootout win over Bruins
Winnipeg recorded a 4-3 shootout win over host Boston Tuesday night to improve to 32-16-2 on the season. Josh Morissey tied the score for the Jets at 1-1 in the first period on a power play goal with an assist going to Mark Scheifele. The Bruins scored again later in the first to grab a 2-1 advantage, but the Jets went ahead 3-2 in the second on a pair of goals by Kyle Connor. His first goal was assisted by Tyler Myers and Ben Chiarot, while his second tally drew assists from Scheifele and Blake Wheeler. Boston tied it up later in the period and it remained at 3-3 until the shootout. Connor played the role of hero in the shootout as well as he was the only player on either team to find the back of the net. Connor Hellebuyck recorded 36 saves on 39 shots in the winning effort.
NHL Betting Trends
Columbus
The Blue Jackets are 5-1 in their last six games versus the Central Division. Columbus is 21-7 in its last 28 Thursday games.
Winnipeg
The Jets are 7-3 in their last 10 games versus the Metropolitan Division. Winnipeg is 61-21 in its last 82 home games.
Prediction:
Winnipeg is typically dominant at home, but playing its third game in four days and traveling from Boston doesn’t help. I’m going to take a shot on a solid Columbus team that is salty after playing fairly poorly a couple nights ago. The Blue Jackets should still be decently rested with just one contest under their belts since the lengthy All-Star Break.
