Lightning double up Sharks
Tampa Bay rolled to a 6-3 home victory over San Jose 11 days go to go into the All-Star Break with a 37-10-2 record. Mathieu Joseph gave the Lightning a 1-0 advantage 3:32 in on assists by Anthony Cirelli and J.T. Miller. Alex Killorn made it 2-0 later in the first off an assist from Brayden Point. San Jose managed to even it up at 2-2 with a goal in the final minute of the first plus a score in the first minute of the second period. Yanni Gourde scored his 12th goal of the season to give Tampa Bay the lead back at the 12:31 mark of the second period. Steven Stamkos and Ondrej Palat assisted on the goal. Victor Hedman made it a 4-2 game on a power play goal late in the second with Nikita Kucherov drawing an assist. San Jose scored its final goal in the last minute. Andrei Vasilevskiy earned the win with 36 saves on 39 shots.
Penguins fall to Devils
Pittsburgh lost 6-3 at home Monday night against New Jersey to fall to 26-17-6 on the season. The Penguins fell behind 3-0 in the second period before getting on the board via a Derick Brassard goal assisted by Marcus Pettersson and Juuso Riikola. New Jersey proceeded to score two more goals to make it a 5-1 deficit in the third. Matt Cullen scored a shorthanded unassisted goal to cut the deficit to three goals, but the Devils added another goal to put it away. Bryan Rust scored with 1:57 left on assists from Evgeny Malkin and Brian Dumoulin to make it a 6-3 final. Matt Murray made 26 saves on 32 shots in the loss.
NHL Betting Trends
The Lightning are 40-14 in their last 54 games. Tampa Bay is 39-19 in its last 58 Wednesday games.
The Penguins are 7-1 in their last eight games played on one day of rest. Pittsburgh is 1-4 in its last five home games.
The Penguins are struggling again like it was a couple months ago and a game against Tampa Bay is a bad mix, especially a Lightning team that will be refreshed and looking to bounce back from a loss before the All-Star Break. I can't endorse the hosts here. Go with Tampa Bay as the favorites.
