Toronto Maple Leafs Fantasy Spin
Fredrik Anderson has been in a freefall for almost a month. Andersen has allowed three or more goals in 10 of the Maple Leafs' last 12 games. It hasn't helped that the Buds have missed top-four defensemen Morgan Rielly and Jake Muzzin for part of that time, but Andersen is also responsible for some of his poor play. The veteran netminder continues to work with goalie coach Steve Briere to get back to his usual level of proficiency. We haven't given up on Andersen as there is a good chance he could rebound after the All-Star break.
Nashville Predators Fantasy Spin
Pekka Rinne allowed one goal on 31 shots in Saturday's 2-1 home victory against the Buffalo Sabres. Rinne actually trailed after the first period, allowing a goal to Sam Reinhart right before heading to the initial break. That was all the Buffalo offense could muster against the 37-year-old backstop, however, as he improved to 16-10-3 with a 2.95 goals-against average and .899 save percentage. The Predators are off until Jan. 27 against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The Maple Leafs have won five of their last six road games but are just 1-5 in their last six games overall.
The Predators are 5-11 in their last 16 games at home.
As you read above, Anderson is struggling right not for Toronto and it doesn’t help that the Leafs continue to miss several key defenseman as they try collectively to keep the puck out of their net. This has created great opportunities for bettors to cash the over in recent Toronto games, including in five of the Leafs’ last six games overall. The over is also 4-1 in the Leafs’ last five games as a road underdog and is 4-1 in their last five road games. On the other side, the over is 9-1 in the Predators’ last 10 games versus Eastern Conference opponents and is 17-6-3 in their last 26 games when their opponent scores two goals or less in its previous game.
Monday NHL Prediction: Maple Leafs/Predators OVER 6.5
