Mark Stone (COVID-19 protocol) didn’t travel with his teammates for the start of their road trip this week. Coach Pete DeBoer said on Sunday that Stone remains unavailable due to COVID protocol. He was added to the list on Jan. 20, so it isn’t surprising that he won’t be ready to play on Monday against Washington. Still, Stone could be ready to join the team at some point.

Alex Ovechkin scored two goals in Saturday’s 3-2 overtime win over the Ottawa Senators. Ovechkin was having a relatively quiet game up until the third period. Then, with his Capitals trailing 2-0, the veteran star sparked to life with a pair of goals against Matt Murray to tie things up. Nicklas Backstrom would ensure that Ovechkin’s clutch goals did not go in vain, sealing the win with a goal of his own in overtime. Overall this season, Ovechkin has been brilliant, posting 29 goals and 58 points over the course of 42 games played. He has scored five goals in his last five games and now has a seven-game point streak working. All of this at 36 years old.
