Sharks tripped up at Panthers
San Jose could not put it together Monday at Florida as it dropped a 6-2 decision to fall to 28-16-7 on the season. Logan Couture tied it at 1-1 for the Sharks 4:21 into the second period on a goal assisted by Brent Burns and Timo Meier. After the Panthers regained the lead, San Jose evened it at 2-2 with 6:40 remaining in the second on a goal courtesy of Meier with assists going to Joe Pavelski and Joe Thornton. Florida proceeded to score four unanswered goals in the third period. Martin Jones surrendered five goals on 21 shots before being yanked for Aaron Dell, who gave up one additional goal on nine shots.
Caps fall to Blackhawks in high-scoring affair
Washington lost 8-5 Sunday at Chicago for its fifth consecutive defeat. The Capitals (27-16-5) fell behind 2-0 in the first period before getting on the scoreboard courtesy of Brooks Orpik with 5:35 left in the period on assists by Brett Connolly and Lars Eller. Chicago added another goal before the period ended, while early in the second the hosts went up by a count of 4-1. Washington managed to get one goal back before the end of the second as Dmitry Orlov lit the lamp. Matt Niskanen and Andre Burakovsky assisted on the score. The Capitals cut it to 4-3 3:09 into the third period as John Carlson found the back of the net on assists by Orlov and T.J. Oshie. The Blackhawks proceeded to score the next two goals, but another goal by Carlson made it 6-4 as Nicklas Backstrom and Oshie drew assists. Niskanen made it a 6-5 game with 6:05 remaining on assists from Travis Boyd and Burakovsky. Chicago ended up adding two insurance goals to close it out. NHL Betting Trends
The Sharks are 4-0 in their last four games versus the Metropolitan Division. San Jose is 6-1 in its last seven meetings in Washington.
The Capitals are 5-20 in the last 25 meetings. Washington is 9-4 in its last 13 games versus the Pacific Division.
Both teams played yesterday, so there is no rest advantage plus both teams traveled back to D.C. The Capitals are much better than they've played lately and I'm going to trust the team that isn't on a lengthy road trip. Look for Washington to be much tighter on the back end in order to post the win and snap its skid.
