Sharks doubled up by Panthers
San Jose was doubled up by host Tampa Bay Saturday night by a count of 6-3. The Sharks were without star defenseman Erik Karlsson, who is questionable to play tonight. San Jose (28-15-7) fell behind 2-0 in the first period before Evander Kane cut the deficit to one goal as he scored with 21 seconds left on assists by Timo Meier and Joe Thornton. Kane then proceeded to tie it up at 2-2 58 seconds into the second period with Joonas Donskoi and Radim Simek recording assists. Tampa Bay went on to score twice the rest of the second period to go back up 4-2. The Lightning added two more goals in the third before the Sharks trimmed it back to 6-3 with 37 seconds left on a goal by Marcus Sorensen assisted by Tim Heed and Kevin Lablanc. Martin Jones allowed six goals on 26 shots in the loss.
Panthers secure win at Predators
Florida earned a 4-2 victory at Nashville Saturday night to improve to 19-20-8 on the season. Aaron Ekblad opened the scoring 4:05 in on the power play off assists from Vincent Trocheck and Henrik Borgstrom. Frank Vatrano made it 2-0 later in the first with assists going to Ekblad and Evgenii Dadonov. Trocheck made it 3-0 in the second off an assist by Colton Sceviour. Nashville cut it to 3-2 in the third period, but Florida added an insurance goal by Jared McCann with 8:22 remaining on assists by Sceviour and Jayce Hawryluk. James Reimer made 37 saves on 39 shots in the winning effort.
NHL Betting Trends
The Sharks are 7-2 in their last nine games. The road team is 5-0 in the last five meetings.
The Panthers are 0-4 in their last four games versus the Pacific Division. Florida is 2-7 in its last nine games overall.
San Jose is the much better team here, but could be road-weary and might be without Karlsson. Florida is playing good hockey lately and its young core look to be making strides. The line indicates that Florida has a good shot here and I'm taking advantage of the public being mostly on the other side as it could very well be a trap play.
