There is no shortage of bad feelings between the Boston Bruins and the Philadelphia Flyers in their long-time rivalry, but one of the all-time boiling points came in May when Boston had a 3-0 series lead in the Eastern Conference semifinals before Philadelphia blasted back with four straight wins and eventually advanced to the Stanley Cup finals.
Boston and Philadelphia meet for the second time in Boston this season Thursday night at 7:00PM EST. Oddsmakers and online sports book Sportsbook.com have made the Bruins -125 favorites and the over-under is set at 5.5.
A two-game winning streak has Boston (23-12-7) clicking on all cylinders as it came from behind with four third period goals Monday in a 4-2 victory over Pittsburgh, then was even more impressive the following night in a 6-0 shutout of Ottawa. Philadelphia (27-10-5) is also strong as of late having won all four of its January games by downing Detroit, New Jersey twice, and Buffalo 5-2 on Tuesday.
Mike Richards leads the Flyers with 14 goals and 24 assists, while teammate Daniel Briere has tallied 22 goals and 15 assists. Patrice Bergeron leads the Bruins with 14 goals and 18 assists, while goaltender Tim Thomas has a 1.77 goals-against average in 29 starts.
Another prime game on the schedule is Vancouver at the New York Rangers beginning at 7:00PM EST. The Canucks have not suffered a regulation loss in their last 17 games and are a -130 favorite with an over-under of 5.5 for the game.
