Penguins roll past Panthers
Pittsburgh cruised to a 5-1 home win Tuesday night over Florida as it bounced back from having its eight-game win streak snapped the game before. The Penguins (24-13-6) took a 1-0 lead 1:29 in on the sixth goal of the season by Tanner Pearson. It was assisted by Marcus Pettersson and Patric Hornqvist. Bryan Rust scored less than two minutes later on assists from Jake Guentzel and Sidney Crosby. Rust scored again early in the second period on the power play to make it 3-0 with Matt Cullen and Brian Dumoulin assisting. Riley Sheahan added an unassisted shorthanded goal later in the second to push it to 4-0. The Panthers scored their goal before the end of the second period, but Pittsburgh added an insurance tally in the third courtesy of Crosby off assists from Evgeni Malkin and Pettersson. Matt Murray made 36 saves on 37 shots to post the win.
Ducks drop ninth straight
Anaheim suffered a ninth straight defeat Wednesday night at home by a count of 2-1 in overtime to the Senators. Jakob Silfverberg scored the lone goal for the Ducks (19-17-8) in the first period to give the hosts a 1-0 advantage. Brandon Montour and Andrew Cogliano assisted on the score. Ottawa drew even midway through the third period before scoring the winner in OT. John Gibson accounted for 28 saves on 30 shots in the losing effort.
NHL Betting Trends
Pittsburgh
The Penguins are 5-0 in their last five road games. Pittsburgh is 10-2 in its last 12 games versus the Pacific Division.
Anaheim
The Ducks are 14-4 in their last 18 games versus the Metropolitan Division. Anaheim is 0-5 in its last five home games.
Prediction:
These teams are going in completely opposite directions, with Pittsburgh playing its best hockey of the season over the last month while the half-rebuilding Ducks are in a never-ending tailspin. I think Pittsburgh is definitely the much safer play here and consideration could be made on the puckline bet as Anaheim has lost five of the nine games during this stretch by multiple goals.
