Avs hammered by Jets

Colorado suffered a 7-4 defeat at Winnipeg Tuesday night to drop to 20-15-8 on the season. The Avalanche fell behind 2-0 in the first period before a goal by Gabriel Landeskog late in the first cut it to 2-1. Tyson Barrie and Nathan MacKinnon assisted on the score. The Jets pushed their advantage to 4-1 in the second period, but Colorado trimmed it on a goal from Carl Soderberg with assists going to Matt Calvert and Erik Johnson. The Avs made it a 4-3 contest with 2:17 left in the second on a goal courtesy of Ryan Graves with assists given to Mikko Rantanen and Soderberg. Winnipeg pushed it to 6-3 in the third before Landeskog scored his second goal of the game and 27th of the season. MacKinnon and Barrie recorded assists. Philipp Grubauer recorded 14 saves on 20 shots in the losing effort.

Flames edge Blackhawks

Calgary picked up a 4-3 victory at Chicago Monday night to improve to 27-13-4 on the season. Johnny Gaudreau scored his 25th goal of the season early in the first on assists from Sean Monahan and Elias Lindholm, but the hosts managed to tie it at 1-1 through one period and take a 2-1 advantage in the second. The Flames managed to score the next three goals, beginning with a power play score from Monahan late in the second off assists from Matthew Tkachuk and Lindholm. Gaudreau scored his 26th goal of the season and second of the contest in the first minute of the third to give Calgary a 3-2 advantage. Mark Giordano assisted on the tally. Garnet Hathaway added a short-handed insurance goal with 50 seconds left on an empty net, while the Blackhawks got one goal back with 29 seconds remaining but were unable to tie it. David Rittich made 32 saves on 35 shots to post the win.

NHL Betting Trends

The Avalanche are 4-1 in their last five Wednesday games. Colorado is 0-4 in its last four meetings in Calgary.

The Flames are 4-1 in their last five games overall. Calgary is 8-2 in its last 10 games versus a team with a losing overall record.

Calgary is the better team playing the more consistent hockey and at home. I like picking upsets as much as anyone, but I can't endorse it here with the Avs in a freefall.
