DAVIE, Fla. (AP) -Miami Dolphins middle linebacker Zach Thomas will miss Sunday’s game against the New York Jets after tests revealed he has a mild concussion.
Thomas might be available to play next week, coach Cam Cameron said Friday.
Thomas played every snap in Miami’s loss Sunday to Dallas but said he felt lightheaded in the locker room after the game. He complained of a migraine this week and missed practice for the third day in a row Friday.
The game will be only the 14th Thomas has missed in his 12-year career.
“He wants to be there in the worst way,” Cameron said. “The medical people have ruled him out. It’s not as if he doesn’t want to play, I can tell you that.”
Outside linebacker Channing Crowder will shift to the middle to replace Thomas. Derrick Pope will move into the starting lineup on the outside and share time with Donnie Spragan.
Crowder played middle linebacker at Florida and for three games as a rookie in 2005 when Thomas was sidelined.
“I could never replace Zach,” Crowder said. “I just take over. He’s an irreplaceable guy. His presence and his knowledge of the game are really missed when he’s not in there.”
Reserve safety Donovin Darius (calf) will also miss the game. Quarterback Trent Green (ankle) was listed as probable but participated in the full practice Friday and is expected to play.
