ATLANTA (AP) -Bengals coach Marvin Lewis joined a long injury list for Cincinnati on Monday night.
Lewis, who had outpatient surgery on Wednesday to repair torn tendons in his left ankle, watched from the press box as 14 of his players missed the preseason game against Atlanta with injuries.
Assistant coach Paul Alexander filled in for Lewis following the surgery. Lewis wore a cast as he watched practice from a golf cart the day after the surgery, but he took a safer perch for the preseason game.
It was the first time Lewis coached a game from the press box since 1996, when he was Baltimore’s defensive coordinator.
Lewis received a positive report following the surgery by Dr. Jim Amis, who said there were no complications.
