ATTLEBORO, Mass. (AP) – A cousin of former New England Patriot Aaron Hernandez is due in court on a contempt charge after authorities say she refused to testify before the grand jury that indicted the ex-player in the murder of a friend.
Tanya Singleton is scheduled to be arraigned Friday in a Fall River court. Bristol County District Attorney Samuel Sutter says she was indicted on a criminal contempt charge for refusing to testify before the grand jury hearing evidence in Hernandez’s case.
That grand jury on Thursday indicted Hernandez on first-degree murder and weapons charges in the death of 27-year-old Odin Lloyd, a semi-professional football player from Boston.
The 23-year-old Hernandez pleaded not guilty to murder and weapons charges in district court in June. He is being held without bail.
