GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) -The Green Bay Packers released safety Marviel Underwood and signed rookie fullback Erryn Cobb on Tuesday.
Underwood was in the mix for a starting job last season until a season-ending knee injury in the Packers’ first preseason game. He spent the offseason rehabilitating his knee but wasn’t quite back to the same level as last year.
Cobb, a 6-1, 241-pound undrafted free agent from Northwestern, began his collegiate career as a linebacker before moving to fullback in 2004. He was the team’s starting tight end in 2005 and played a combination of tight end and fullback as a senior in 2006.
The Packers lack depth at fullback, where Brandon Miree is returning from a neck injury that caused him to miss the first two preseason games and rookie Korey Hall is trying to make the transition from college linebacker to fullback.
