LATROBE, Pa. (AP) – Former Pro Bowl linebacker Joey Porter is settling into his new job as an assistant with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Porter had 60 sacks while spending seven seasons with the Steelers from 1999-2006, helping the team win the 2006 Super Bowl. He is in his first year as an assistant with Pittsburgh, where he’s working with a group of young linebackers he’ll try to mold in his image.
Rookie Ryan Shazier says Porter is bringing a new level of intensity both in meetings and on the field.
Porter joked there’s a part of him that believes he can still play. He added that feeling fades when he sees how strong the rookies are in the weight room.
The Steelers begin two days of practices with the Buffalo Bills on Wednesday.
