HOUSTON (AP) -The Houston Texans waived running back Mike Bell and signed offensive tackle Torrin Tucker on Friday after Ephraim Salaam was sidelined with a knee injury.
Salaam started all 16 games for Houston last season, but coach Gary Kubiak said Salaam will be out for three to four weeks after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his left knee.
The Texans signed Bell on July 31 to back up Chris Brown, who’s been hampered by back soreness at training camp. Bell played two seasons with Denver before the Broncos released him and he signed with Houston.
Kubiak said Tucker could play in Saturday’s preseason opener against Denver.
“He’s going to suit up, and I sure hope we’re OK so that he doesn’t have to go out there,” Kubiak said. “I think he could go out there in a real, real emergency situation.”
