CINCINNATI (AP) – Pro Bowl linebacker Vontaze Burfict is a little sorer during this training camp than the past two. And it has nothing to do with his conditioning.
The Bengals’ offense is throwing its weight around a little bit more these days.
Cincinnati is trying to become more of a run-oriented team this year under new coordinator Hue Jackson. Part of the emphasis includes becoming more physical, especially on blocking. Burfict has noticed the difference.
The Bengals open their preseason on Thursday at Kansas City. Coach Marvin Lewis said on Tuesday that offensive tackle Andrew Whitworth, tight end Jermaine Gresham and receiver Marvin Jones are among those who won’t play. Quarterback Andy Dalton will get a series or two.
