TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) -Arizona Cardinals inside linebacker Karlos Dansby signed a one-year tender offer worth just over $8 million Thursday as the team’s franchise player.
Intermittent talks about a long-term deal have stalled.
The Cardinals and Dansby have until July 15 to reach a multiyear contract. If they don’t, Dansby can’t sign a new contract until after the coming NFL season.
As a franchise player, Dansby gets the average of the top five salaries of players at his position last season – $8.065 million.
Dansby’s agent, Kirk Wood, is believed to be seeking contracts similar to those signed by Adalius Thomas with New England and former Cardinal Calvin Pace with the New York Jets. Those deals guaranteed each player about $20 million.
Danby is considered one of the fastest and versatile players at his position in the NFL. He was switched from outside to inside linebacker last season and responded with a career-best 117 tackles, despite missing two games with a knee injury. He intercepted three passes and forced four fumbles.
