Giants vs. Cowboys Spread Prediction
With the Dallas Cowboys expected to rest starters for large stretches of their game Sunday in East Rutherford, are the New York Giants worth a look for bettors as a home favorite?
Game Snapshot
301 Dallas Cowboys at 302 New York Giants
1:00 p.m. ET, Sunday, December 30
MetLife Stadium, East Rutherford, New Jersey
Public Betting Trends
According to oddsmakers from online sports book BetNow.eu, the Giants are 6.5-point favorites to beat the Cowboys. The total, meanwhile, sits at 41 points. As of this writing, 55% of the public betting tickets are on the Cowboys to cover the point spread.
Dallas Cowboys
Coach Jason Garrett insists “anybody who is healthy and ready to play is going to play” Week 17 against the Giants. That can be taken a number of different ways and leaves an “out” for Garrett, as no starter is 100% healthy this time of the year. Guys could use some rest, and the last time we saw Dallas in this situation with nothing to gain in Week 17, Ezekiel Elliott dressed but didn’t play, and Dak Prescott and Dez Bryant played a couple series. It was essentially treated like a preseason game. Elliott is not going to get a full workload in his game, even if he is active. The Cowboys are already locked into the NFC’s No. 4 seed and have far more to lose than gain Sunday.
New York Giants
Odell Beckham (quad) is out for Week 17 against the Cowboys. Beckham missed the last four games of the season and finishes with 77-1,052-6 a year after missing most of 2017 with a fractured fibula. No matter who is under center for the Giants next year, Beckham will likely be a borderline first-round fantasy pick in 2019. He just turned 26 last month.
NFL Betting Trends
Dallas
The Cowboys are 7-1 against the spread in their last eight games versus NFC East rivals.
New York
The Giants are 5-1-1 against the number in their last seven games overall.
Prediction
Jason Garrett says that his team will go all-out today but if you look back to Week 17 two years ago when the Cowboys didn’t have anything to play for, Elliott suited up but didn’t play while Prescott and Bryant played sparingly before they headed to the sidelines. The Giants have had a bad year but they’ve been more competitive over the past month. I’ll lay the 6.5 points with a New York team that is seemingly still trying to win games versus a Dallas squad that is just looking to escape East Rutherford Sunday with good health.
