Vikings vs. Packers Prediction
Will the Green Bay Packers at least cover the spread as a large home underdog when they host the Minnesota Vikings at 8:30 p.m. ET on Saturday night?
Who Oddsmakers Like: Minnesota. According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Vikings are 9-point road favorites to beat the Packers, who also opened as a 9-point underdog once it was announced that Aaron Rodgers was placed on I.R. The total, meanwhile, currently sits at 41 points after hitting the board at 42.
Who the Public Likes: Minnesota. As of Saturday morning, 57% of betting tickets are on the Vikings and so is 57% of the money.
Who the Trends Like: The under is 5-1 in the last six meetings between these two teams but the over has cashed in seven of the last 10 meetings at Lambeau. The underdog, meanwhile, is 5-1 against the spread in the last six meetings between these two teams while the home squad is 10-4 at the betting window in the last 14 meetings. The Vikings are also just 2-6 against the spread in their last eight trips to Green Bay.
Who We Like: Green Bay. This is too many points to hand a home team playing in a divisional game. Remember on Monday night when the Falcons had everything on the line and they were playing in Tampa Bay against a banged-up Buccaneers team? Everyone piled on Atlanta, which hung on to win by a field goal as a 7-point road favorite. I think we’re going to see something similar tonight.
The Vikings have everything to play for while the Packers were eliminated by the aforementioned Falcons on Monday night. Brett Hundley is starting against that nasty Minnesota defense so why not just lay the points? Because the Vikings tend to struggle in Green Bay, just like the Falcons tend to struggle at Raymond James Stadium. It is what it is. Minnesota should win, but I like the game to be closer than most expect.
