Pittsburgh Steelers Fantasy Spin
Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said Devlin Hodges will start in Week 16 against the Jets. “I look forward to giving him the opportunity to rebound,” Tomlin added. It’s the right call despite Hodges’ underwhelming four-turnover letdown against the Bills Sunday night. Hodges has been nothing more than a game manager in his last three starts, averaging 5.14 YPA and adding an element of surprise on the ground, but even his shortcomings are an upgrade over what Mason Rudolph brought to the table under center earlier this year. We would expect Hodges to bounce back in a softer spot against the Jets this upcoming Sunday. The Steelers can clinch a postseason berth by winning out over their next two games.
New York Jets Fantasy Spin
Sam Darnold completed 18-of-32 passes for 218 yards, two touchdowns and an interception in the Jets’ 42-21, Week 15 loss to the Ravens. Darnold also lost a fumble on an evening where the Jets got utterly annihilated. They entered the fourth quarter trailing 35-7, but a blocked punt score and an 18-yard touchdown to Jamison Crowder helped Gang Green and Darnold save a little face. As has been the case for most of the past six weeks, Darnold was not wildly bad, but he wasn’t good, either. His interception was a truly atrocious red zone decision, while the fumble came in the Jets’ own territory. Both touchdown strikes were solid throws, and the first came after Crowder dropped a wide-open score one play earlier. Darnold has not gone all the way off the rails like he was threatening to do in late October, but his progress has been lurching at best. The Steelers are another nightmare opponent for Week 16.
NFL Betting Trends
Pittsburgh
The under is 20-6 in the Steelers’ last 26 road games when facing an opponent that owns a losing record at home.
New York
The over is 5-1 in the Jets’ last six games coming off a loss of more than 14 points.
Prediction
The over has been profitable in recent Jets games when they’re listed as a dog, cashing in four of their last five games in those situations. That said, the under is 52- in the Jets’ last seven home games and has been profitable in Pittsburgh games as well. In fact, the under is 16-5 in the Steelers’ last 21 games overall, is 38-13 in their last 51 road contests and is 23-5 in their last 28 games when listed as a road favorite. With the Steelers limited offensively but stout defensively, this has the makings of another low-scoring game involving Pittsburgh.
